Baby knitting

I'm cheating a bit by categorising this under Finished Objects as the booties still need to be sewn up and finished off with ribbon in the eyelets but who knows when that will happen. Maybe tomorrow?

This yarn is Orkney Angora from my stash. I don't know whether we're having a boy or a girl and this is probably a little girly for a boy but I figured I could always give it to someone.

Now I'm feeling the need to knit a nice unisex cardigan. Off to do some pattern hunting.

Flower Basket Shawl

Finally finished!

And on:

I used two and a bit balls of Artesano Alpaca yarn on 4mm needles.

Update

There's some non-knitting-but-with-future-knitting-potential news over here I'd like to share.

In knitting updates this is now three rows from being finished. I'm looking forward to the magic of blocking. It's taken me nearly 9 months. I'll have to get faster if I want to knit a baby blanket in time!

Oh this poor neglected blog

I think the cold weather is inspiring me to knit again. Not that I haven't been knitting at all. I've made a few little somethings, I just didn't take any photos. But somebody else did! You can see a cotton dishcloth made with Rowan yarn and this pattern and a panta made with organic wool from Curious Yarns. Dina was an excellent person to send packages to for the One Skein exchange and I had fun with it.

Apart from the cold weather this lovely blanket has also got me inspired again! Love it Kathleen! I must have one.

Now to stop just thinking about knitting and actually knit.

Mittens and a menu

I started the day with one fully and one half knitted mitten:

Mitten

And I finish the day with a pair!

Two_mittens

These will be jetting their way to Sonia shortly in the hope that she'll be able to wear them at least once before winter is well and truly over in Australia.

I used this generic mitten pattern and knitted with a strand of Rowan wool cotton and a strand of Kidsilk Haze held together on 4mm dpns. The resulting fabric is toasty warm and soft and will hopefully go well with the curly-whirly scarf.

Ra asked in a comment below about the menu that Donni sent me. Here's a photo of it (if this is too hard to read click for the bigger version) but I warn you, do not read if you are hungry.

Ra also asked about twisties. The official twisties page doesn't have that much info but wikipedia has a little more and a search for twisties on flickr gives a few pictures too. I still have two packets left.

A bit of Australia in a box

Yesterday morning the doorbell rang at 8am. Dave had to answer it because I was in my underwear. He came back upstairs with a box from Amazon and said "It's for you." I was a bit confused because I haven't ordered anything from Amazon recently, but then I saw who the sender really was and I think I actually let out a whoop! The lovely Donni of Mog's Blog sent me this parcel for no reason at all except perhaps pity for a fellow twisties lover?

Aussie_goodies

And underneath all that there was more!

More_aussie_goodies

Now I can see what I would be reading if I had taken up knitting in Australia instead of the UK. The card you can see has the breakfast menu for an Aussie cafe on the back of it and I was drooling reading it. You just don't get food like that here.

Thank you Donni! It really is much appreciated. I've already eaten two packets of Twisties and will try and make the rest last a little longer.

Testing out Zoomr

Zoomr is a new photo sharing site that is giving away free pro accounts to bloggers. Details here.

So I'm testing it out with a picture taken at the beach on Saturday and I thought there might be some knitters out there interested.

In knitting news - it's happening! I just don't have any pictures and at the moment it's stalled because who wants to knit mittens in this heat? (Sonia, if you're reading I promise I'll have them done before your winter is over!)

One Skein Goodness

A big thank you to my One Skein pal! Look at this!

One_skein_parcel

She sent me two pattern kits. The white yarn comes with a pattern for a headband and a sachet of eucalan wool wash. I'm thinking I might use some more Kool Aid and dye the yarn. Should  be ready in time for winter!

The second kit is for a shawl and I love the green colours. Here's a close-up:

It's called Tartelette - what a great name! Makes me hungry.

Two scarves

These two scarves have found their new owners so I can post about them now. I didn't want to ruin the surprise earlier because you never know who is out there reading this!

Firstly we have a crochet curly-whirly scarf made with black kidsilk haze. I ran out of yarn about 30cm from the end and then it took me forever to find some more in the right colour. Stitch DC came through for me and I was able to finish it off when we got back from the US. Luckily I remembered how to crochet.

This has jetted off to my step-sister, Sonia, in Australia.

The second scarf was also sent to Australia. In fact, they were sent in the same package as this one is for my step-mother, Pam. A drop-stitch scarf made with Colinette Giotto in the Sahara colourway on 8mm needles. I've made a couple of scarves like this and usually make up the number of stitches and rows as I go but this time I used the pattern from Stitch'n'Bitch Nation. The Giotto was a gift from my secret pal 6 and was fun to knit with.

Knitting for Psychos

My lovely husband emailed me these pictures. Does anyone know where they come from?! A little googling found some more here on flickr.
